Here at Rancho San Lucas, the upscale luxury real estate development and newest member of Solmar Group, we are welcoming the Fall season, a time of harvest, reflection and gratitude. Families gather and celebrate with loved ones to give thanks for the bounty they have received. This unique private Beachfront Resort community, with spectacular ocean views from every corner, is now offering the opportunity for you to become a part of our family.
Thanksgiving, dating back to the 1600s in North America, is a day for families to come together for a feast and share tales of the past, challenges of the present and hopes for the future, bringing to mind those that came before and preparing the path for new generations, our legacy.
In Mexico, families gather to honor, remember and celebrate their beloved departed at the beginning of November, on “Día de Los Muertos” (Day of the Dead), a tradition having evolved from the Aztecs, which later incorporated customs from Spanish colonial times. To welcome and invite the return of the loved ones’ spirits, personal altars are created with “ofrendas” (offerings) of food, drink and music. The altars include lovingly placed pictures of the departed, their favorite foods, drinks and personal belongings, and are decorated with typical Marigold flowers, delicate “papel picado” (tissue paper banners), “calaveras” (elaborately decorated sugar skulls), “pan de muerto” (bone-shaped semi-sweet bread) and other symbols.
This is a joyous occasion where the entire family, gathers at the altars and cemeteries to celebrate those that have gone before them. It is a powerful reminder that we can honor the dead and still celebrate life, providing an opportunity to express appreciation for our loved ones, and hand down our family stories to our children and their children, their legacy.
