New Trends on Interior Design for 2021

The talented team of architects and interior designers at Rancho San Lucas’ Design Studio share their best tips to create spaces and atmospheres that adapt to different lifestyles.
Design for your day-to-day. Your interior design must adapt to your daily lifestyle – so functionality and keeping the décor simple allows enjoyable spaces to emerge. We seek to create a harmonious balance between aesthetics and personality. “Our first step is to learn more about our clients’ daily routine, as well as the spaces they spend more time in and enjoy. We aim to create ambiences that adapt perfectly to their lifestyle,” says Aurora Fregoso, Lead Designer at Rancho San Lucas Design Studio.
Define your style. Your home needs to carry your original stamp, and the Design Studio specialists share some tips to unleash that unique environment you can identify with. “Define your style: modern, traditional, rustic, boho-chic or coastal; you can even define it as eclectic.” Recognizing your visual personality will help you visualize your home as a whole and flow cohesively throughout the house. “Create mood boards with the colors and elements with which you feel a strong affinity and integrate them into each space.”
Natural materials, a must. In addition to the rich textures that you can obtain from organic materials, their durability is superior to prefabricated ones. “Choose quality over quantity. A single solid wood piece of furniture can enhance the elegance of a room instead of filling the space with low-quality furniture. “Try to incorporate natural fabrics as “they give an exciting look to any room”; while the ceramics “add a very fresh and elegant touch.”
Your home should feed your five senses. Suppose you are trying to design fragrant, appealing and lively areas for your home. In that case, The Design Studio recommends: “Use plants such as Ferns, Brazilian Wood or Crotons to purify the air in your home, and a Eucalyptus sachet to freshen up the indoor atmosphere. For the visual lean towards warm color tones. To create soothing sounds, you can install a water fountain that will fill your home with relaxing water ripples. Playing with textures in cushions and pillows, tiles and textured mosaics or pebbled-flooring in the shower will soothe your feet.”
Add contrast. Creating a harmonic atmosphere does not necessarily imply replicating the same shapes, textures and colors throughout the home. As Aurora explains, “Creating a space that pleases the eye has more to do with diversity. This way, you can give a corner an exceptional personality is decorating it with different colors from the rest.” The same applies to patterns, “it is crucial to only use them in the areas you want to highlight.”
Trendy colors. One last tip to add some accents to space is to use the tones chosen by Pantone for 2021: Illuminating PANTONE 13-0647, an intense yellow that invokes the brightness of the sun; and the Ultimate Gray PANTONE 17-5104, a shade that brings us back to solid ground and confidence. “The best way to add this exciting color palette is on cushions, rugs, and sofa throws.”
