History & Vision

A bit of history…
One of the pioneers of Los Cabos had a vision some fifty years ago. As a hotelier, restaurateur, and founder of the Solmar Group, he envisioned a ranch on the Pacific side of the lower peninsula, but his dream was not of horses or barns, but rather an upscale hotel, beautiful residential homes, retail stores, almost everything that you would find in a small community. The land he purchased is filled with natural desert flora and fauna with rustic beauty.

Rancho San Lucas is an exclusive, 834-acre resort community located just 30 minutes from the Los Cabos International Airport. Enjoying sweeping vistas of the Pacific Ocean and Baja’s stunning desert landscape, this landmark community offers visitors and owners a private respite that melds two luxury resorts – Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas Resort Golf & Spa and Grand Solmar The Residences at Rancho San Lucas, an unparalleled collection of residential options including The Villas at Rancho San Lucas with Santa Barbara-style single-family homes and Norman Estates at Rancho San Lucas, with luxurious oceanfront estate homes and residences. It is also home to the Rancho San Lucas Golf Club featuring an 18-hole championship golf course designed by golf legend Greg Norman. Rancho San Lucas will also have a Mexican Village offering shopping and entertainment, a variety of world-class dining venues, and much more.

Respecting Baja’s Natural Resources through Environmentally Conscious Development

The Los Cabos area has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few decades. Once a collection of sleepy fishing villages, Los Cabos is today one of the most popular destinations in the world for vacationers, as well as for retirees looking for a new part-time or full-time home.

As Los Cabos has grown in popularity it has also grown in size, with properties being developed to accommodate the increased flow of visitors and residents to the area. And with development there comes a risk of displacement of certain species, both plant and animal. That’s why it is so important for new developments to minimize their environmental impact; to avoid displacement as much as possible, and where that can’t be achieved, to develop and execute a viable relocation plan. By working with an eye toward protecting and maintaining the environment, Los Cabos can continue to grow without sacrificing those natural resources that make the region great.

Greg Norman Signature Golf Course Environmental Approach

The design philosophy is grounded in a “least disturbance approach” that blends golf courses with their surrounding environment to enhance the properties’ natural features. They are highly regarded as industry leaders in promoting sustainability and the compatibility of golf courses with the environment, with many projects having been awarded the coveted Audubon Society Award for environmental stewardship.
